Dear ISY Families,

This week, I had the pleasure of spending time out at break times and in the lunchroom, simply watching, engaging, and taking in the incredible, vibrant energy of our students. When you step back and observe, you realize that our outdoor and social spaces are so much more than just a break from academics; they are a bustling classroom for social connection, creativity, and personal growth.

On any given day at recess, you can witness the entire spectrum of childhood play:

  • High-energy soccer matches and fast-paced games of tag happening alongside spontaneous gymnastics routines on the grass.

  • Rich imaginary and dramatic play springing up in quiet corners, right next to students collaboratively building mud towns and engineering landscapes.

  • Children challenging their physical balance on the playground equipment, soaring high on the swings, or simply strolling arm-in-arm, lost in deep conversation with a good friend.

Inside the lunchroom, that same energy continues! It is a lively, joyful space where most students hungrily (and happily!) chow down on their lunches, while others prefer to graze slowly, catching up on the latest news with their neighbors.

What strikes me most is how effortlessly these moments reflect our Mission, Learner Attributes, and The Chinthe Way:These daily interactions are where lifelong social skills are built, where our students learn to negotiate, empathize, collaborate, and express themselves freely. I feel privileged to watch our young Chinthes grow not just as learners, but as kind, dynamic, and connected human beings every single day.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Warm regards,

Mr Geoff Heney
