Mr Mike Simpson
Dear Secondary School Families,
Last week, I shared that our faculty would be engaging in professional development around the safe, ethical, and effective use of artificial intelligence in education. I am pleased to report that it was an energizing and productive experience.
It was inspiring to see our teachers approach this topic with such openness, curiosity, and professionalism. The conversations and collaboration reminded me once again of the deep commitment our faculty has—not just to learning new tools, but to using them thoughtfully in ways that support our students.
What stood out most was the sense of possibility. AI is complex and evolving quickly, but our discussions made it clear that we are on the right path. We are not seeking shortcuts or replacements for human expertise. Instead, we are motivated to ensure that students gain the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking necessary to use AI wisely—while continuing to grow into compassionate, well-rounded individuals.
This is the kind of work that strengthens our community. It gives me confidence that ISY is preparing students not only for an uncertain future but also for one full of opportunity.
We are excited about what we learned last week. We are excited to share this with you and your children, the ultimate beneficiaries of our professional learning.
In the meantime, Happy Thadingyut. I hope you all have a relaxing and energizing time and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday, October 13.
Kind Regards,
Mr Mike Simpson

Grade 11 Art Exhibition
This morning, I had the opportunity to visit our beautiful art studio and speak with our Grade 11 IB Diploma Visual Art students about their work. The art was of very high quality and it was great to hear about the students’ processes and their motivation.
✨ What’s On:

Chinthe Expedition Parent Evenings
Parents with children in Grades 6 to 11 will have received an email with some initial information about their child’s Chinthe Expedition. To provide parents with more detailed information about travel and activity schedules and accommodation arrangements, we have organized Chinthe Expedition Parent Nights. I have now met with parents of students in Grades 9, 10, and 11. After Thadingyut Break, I will meet with our Grade 6, 7, and 8 parents.
The Grade 12 Chinthe Expedition Parent Night will be scheduled for a later date as that expedition happens at the end of the school year.
