Mr Mike Simpson

Dear Secondary School Families,

On Thursday, we had our first Secondary School Town Hall. These student-led meetings are great ways to strengthen student voice and connection in the Secondary School.

These gatherings give students a platform to celebrate achievements, share sports results, highlight progress on service projects, and promote upcoming student-led events. When students hear directly from their peers, it builds a stronger sense of community and shared purpose.

Another way we purposefully build students connections across the whole school are our developing Chinthe Communities. We have six Chinthe Communities made up of students from different grade levels. These communities are named after significant Myanmar rivers - Irrawaddy, Thanlwin, Sittaung, Maykha, Malikha, and Chindwin.

Next Wednesday, we will have our first student-led Chinthe Community event. In recognition of World Mental Health Day, our Chinthe Connections service learning group will be leading our Chinthe Communities through a series of activities designed to improve and promote our mental wellbeing. In our Chinthe Communities, younger students will be able to learn from older students and older students will have the opportunity to lead.

These kinds of experiences are a direct reflection of our school’s Mission: A Community of Compassionate Global Citizens. By creating opportunities where students can connect, lead, and learn from one another, we are intentionally nurturing a culture of empathy, belonging, and shared responsibility. Kind Regards,

Mr Mike Simpson
Secondary School Principal
