Dear Secondary School Families,
|
🗓 Getting ready for next year…. |
While we still have a lot to do in the last five weeks to finish this year strongly, we are very much focused on smooth and successful student transitions into next year.
We place a lot of importance on transitioning students into their next grade level and are also very careful to emphasize that all students are part of the same compassionate community – regardless of their grade level or whether they are in the Elementary, Middle, or High School.
As our students change grade levels or move from Elementary to Middle to High School, it is very helpful for them to feel that they are moving through the same community instead of moving on to a different one. The confidence that comes from belonging to a strong community is what makes for smooth and successful transitions throughout each student’s time at ISY.
We have been working with our Grade 8 students in advisory classes to ensure that they feel comfortable entering a new phase of their school journey and know what to expect in Grade 9, the first grade of High School. We have also been working with our Grade 5 students to make sure they know what to expect in Grade 6. Part of this process is having Grade 5 students spend a day in Grade 6 over the next two weeks.
Supporting parents is also an important part of a smooth transition. On Wednesday, Ms. Patty and I hosted a Grade 5 to 6 Parent Evening to explain the Middle School experience and what to expect as parents. This Wednesday, Mr. A-G and I will host a similar evening for Grade 8 to 9 parents. As a school, we are experts in children. However, you are the expert on your child!
We value our partnership with you as parents. When school and home work in partnership, students are far more likely to begin each new chapter with confidence, a sense of belonging, and excitement for what lies ahead. And next year will be exciting!
Kind Regards,
Mr. Mike Simpson

Supporting parents is also an important part of a smooth transition. You are invited to join Mr. A-G and I for an information session to support you as you prepare for your child to start High School next year. The session will be held next Wednesday, May 13 from 6:00 PM in the Chinthe Hub.
