⚽ Mini League with Major Reach

By Shine (grade 7)

Community Sports is a service-learning group that uses sports to bring people together across the ISY community. Our purpose is not just to organize games but to create meaningful experiences where teachers, staff, and students can connect beyond classrooms.

One of the clearest examples of this purpose was the memorable Football Mini League tournament, where we saw our whole community playing, cheering, and laughing together. There was a mix of grades in some teams, and you could see young players on the field alongside older players competing and cooperating.

Ms. Patty said:....it was a different and refreshing way to see students and teachers.

Coach Kaung summed it up when he said: “When everyone steps onto the field, they all become one.”

When Community Sports students are planning, they make sure that the event is as inclusive as possible. This was certainly the case with the Football Mini League - it didn’t matter if you were a beginner or an experienced player, there was a place for you in the Football Mini League! This approach means that everybody can join the fun.

Collaboration is also a major part of who we are. Community Sports works with teachers, students, staff, and other service learning groups to organize events, improve our projects, and continue to thrive. We welcome feedback, and we reflect on our activities to continue to grow.

Since the Football Mini League has been part of ISY for 25 years, it also represents the kind of lasting impact that Community Sports hopes to create. As we continue to grow, Community Sports aspires to become a fun and collaborative service learning group known for creating meaningful events that bring the ISY community together.
