Upcoming events for next weekChinthe Spirit at the YCI Tournament

The recent YCI High School Football Tournament was more than just a series of matches; it was a masterclass in resilience and courage. Throughout a grueling weekend characterized by high stakes and even higher temperatures, our student-athletes embodied the ISY mission, proving that growth happens both on and off the scoreboard.

💪 Strength Through the Heat

Tournament days are long, demanding, and often played under the intense Myanmar sun. This weekend, our Chinthes faced not only formidable opponents but also the physical challenge of maintaining peak performance through fatigue. We saw incredible commitment from every player, from those who played every minute to those who provided vital energy from the sidelines.

Our athletes demonstrated exceptional Reflection, adjusting their tactics between halves and supporting one another when the matches moved into high-pressure penalty shootouts. Whether it was a Middle School student stepping up to compete at the High School level or a veteran player leading a weary defensive line, the sense of Belonging and team unity was our greatest strength.

🙌 Resilience in Action

While the results included hard-fought draws and narrow heartbreaks in shootouts, the true victory lay in the Chinthe Spirit. Our players showed the Courage to keep attacking until the final whistle and the Compassion to lift a teammate up after a tough play.

We saw players like Pyae Pyae and Victoria return from injuries or fatigue to give their all for the team, while others like Angel provided sparks that changed the momentum of their games. Their ability to remain composed and professional in the "cruel" moments of sport is a testament to their growth as international citizens and lifelong learners.

To all our football players: your endurance and sportsmanship this weekend were world-class. You have shown that being a Chinthe means being resilient, staying united, and always striving for excellence, no matter the conditions.

Go Chinthes!

Recent Match Highlights

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
ES Football: ISY v  Network

Our youngest Chinthes turned in a stellar performance at home, exemplifying collaboration and belonging throughout three competitive halves. Despite facing a highly skilled opponent, the team remained determined, focusing on short passes and encouraging one another to believe in their collective strength. The match was a masterclass in teamwork, with midfielders effectively supporting the attack and defenders maintaining a composed line under pressure.

Goalkeeper George set the tone early with a remarkable direct kick goal that boosted team confidence. Alongside George, defenders Si Thu and Elsa were instrumental, making over a dozen crucial saves to keep the team in control. In the forward line, Josh, Hein, and Jack showed great positioning and attacking intent. Meanwhile, Lewis, Philip, and Zwe Zwe anchored the midfield with a high work rate, ensuring every player had an opportunity to contribute to this well-deserved victory.

MIDDLE SCHOOL
🏐 MS Girls Volleyball: ISY 2 - 0 Network

The Middle School Girls team demonstrated significant growth and critical thinking during their straight-sets victory over Network. The match began with some initial nerves as the girls adjusted to the competitive environment. However, they quickly found their rhythm, showing the courage to trust their training and each other. After a tight first set won by only two points, the Chinthes dominated the second set with a large point difference.

The team’s ability to anticipate the opponent's moves showed a high level of tactical awareness. Estina, Moe Moe, and Angel were particularly effective, playing "smart" and reading the game with impressive maturity. Their performance highlights the importance of reflection in-game, as they adjusted their play to capitalize on opportunities and secure the win.

🏐  MS Boys Volleyball: ISY 2 - 0 Network

The Middle School Boys delivered a masterclass in collaboration and focus during their straight-sets victory over Network. Led by Dennis, the team played with exceptional unity, maintaining a point advantage from the very first serve. Their ability to stay composed while leading allowed them to dictate the tempo of the match, finishing the first set 25-18.

The momentum carried into the second set, where the Chinthes showcased their technical growth and creativity. Rich emerged as a standout performer, turning the tide with a "beautiful" jump serve that secured six consecutive points. This scoring run was instrumental in closing out the match 25-20. The team's performance reflects a bright future for our volleyball program, rooted in disciplined practice and mutual support.

HIGH SCHOOL
⚽ HS Boys Football: YCI Tournament Finalists

Our High School Boys demonstrated the true meaning of the Chinthe Spirit, overcoming early group-stage challenges to produce some of the most cohesive football of the tournament. After a comprehensive victory over ISM in the semi-finals, the Chinthes controlled much of the championship match against Network. While the game ultimately shifted to penalties after a 2-2 draw, the team’s collaboration and positive impact remained evident until the final whistle.

Pyae Pyae was a pillar of strength in the backline, earning the tournament MVP for his outstanding defensive contributions. Even after losing key players to injury for the final, the squad showed great courage and adaptability. This tournament served as a vital learning experience, proving that our athletes can maintain their composure and sportsmanship under the highest pressure.

⚽ HS Girls Football: YCI Tournament 4th Place

The High School Girls showcased incredible resilience and courage during a demanding YCI Tournament schedule. In the semi-finals against the top-seeded ISM, the Chinthes played a high-intensity match that ended in a draw after regulation. Despite a narrow loss in the resulting penalty shootout, the squad maintained their composure into the third-place playoff against Network. After controlling the tempo for the majority of the game, another draw led to a marathon six-round shootout.

Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated remarkable growth in tactical play and endurance. Angel, though a Middle School student, provided an essential scoring drive that propelled the team into the knockout stages. Penny’s work rate as the lone forward was tireless, while Victoria excelled in a new defensive midfield role. Her high-energy play and reflection on her new positioning helped maintain possession and stabilized the defense throughout the weekend.
