General Info & Announcements
This week, we are shifting our focus to the upcoming Middle School volleyball and High School football seasons. These events are more than just games; they are opportunities for our students to practice resilience under pressure. We encourage the entire community to come out and support our Chinthes as they put their hard work into action.
Historical Spotlight: The Journey of Badminton
In preparation for our upcoming tournament, we are taking a moment to reflect on the history of badminton. The sport evolved from the ancient game of "battledore and shuttlecock," played for over 2,000 years across Eurasia. The modern version was developed in the mid-19th century by British officers in India, where it was known as "Poona" before being brought to England and named after the Duke of Beaufortās "Badminton House" in 1873.
Myanmar has its own proud chapter in this history. The Myanmar Badminton Federation was founded in 1948, the same year the nation gained independence. Since then, the country has produced world-class talent like Thet Htar Thuzar, an Olympian who has become a symbol of resilience. As our students take the court this weekend, they carry forward a legacy of discipline and internationalism that spans centuries.
Recent Match Highlights
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
ā½ Football
It was a stellar week for our Elementary School football program as both ISY squads took to the pitch against Yangon International School (YIS). In the opening match, ISY Team A set a high bar, playing with intense energy and seamless coordination. Their commitment to effective passing helped them play strongly. ISY Team B followed suit in the second match, maintaining the same level of discipline and focus.
Beyond the scores, our student-athletes truly embodied the Chinthe Spirit. Both the boys and girls displayed remarkable maturity and composure, choosing to celebrate their success with humility. In a wonderful show of sportsmanship and empathy, the teams even opted not to display the running score on the scoreboard to remain respectful of their opponents.
While every player contributed to this successful outing, we are particularly proud of John, who competed in his very first elementary sports match. Congratulations to all our young athletes on a well-managed and principled performance!

Ā š Middle School Boys Volleyball: ISY 1 vs. YIS 2
The Middle School Boys Volleyball team kicked off their season with a thrilling, nail-biting encounter against YIS. For many of our student-athletes, this match represented their very first competitive volleyball experience, and the excitement on the court was palpable from the first serve.
The match was a true see-saw battle that kept fans on the edge of their seats. After YIS took the opening set, the Chinthes showed incredible resilience, storming back in the second set to claim a victory and force a decisive third frame. In the final 15-point tiebreaker, ISY displayed fantastic heart, reaching match point at 14-14. While the game ultimately slipped away in a narrow 14-16 loss, the level of play was exceptional for a season opener.
Dennis stood out as the leader of the squad, delivering a stellar performance and guiding his teammates through the high-pressure moments of the match. Despite the narrow scoreline, the coaching staff was incredibly pleased with the team's progress. This performance sets a strong foundation for the rest of the season as our boys continue to develop their skills and court awareness. Well done, Chinthes!

Ā ā½Ā Boys Football: ISY 5 - ILBC 2
The ISY Boys Football team delivered a commanding performance at the YAC tournament this week, securing a decisive 5-2 victory over ILBC. From the opening whistle, the Chinthes played with remarkable speed and precision, dominating the pace of play against a spirited opposition. This relentless pressure allowed ISY to head into the halftime break with a confident 2-1 lead.
The second half mirrored the first, as ISY found the back of the net twice in the early minutes to extend their advantage. While ILBC managed a late response, the Chinthes remained composed and consolidated their win with a final clinical goal.
The match was highlighted by several standout individual efforts. Minwoo was exceptional, showcasing impressive tactical awareness and nonstop running throughout the contest. Pyae Pyae and Ivan also delivered outstanding performances, contributing to a cohesive team effort that exemplified the Chinthe spirit of collaboration and excellence. Well done to the entire squad on a fantastic tournament result!
ā½ HS Girls Football: ISY 1 - ILBC 0
The ISY High School Girls Football team showcased a masterclass in discipline and tactical awareness this week, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over ILBC. After a balanced opening five minutes, the Chinthes settled into a rhythm, identifying key passing patterns from the back line to the wingers. While ISY created several dangerous chances through this fluid movement, ILBCās defense remained resolute for much of the first half.
The breakthrough came after ISY applied relentless pressure inside the penalty box, earning a crucial penalty. Victoria stepped up and converted with absolute confidence to give the Chinthes the lead. Defensively, the team remained a wall; when ILBC managed two strong shots on goal, keeper Kyuli made vital saves to keep the clean sheet intact.
The second half tested the teamās resolve as ILBC adopted a more aggressive, man-marking style. Despite heavy tackles, our athletes maintained their composure. Victoria led from the back with superb organization, while Maya delivered a high-intensity performance on the wing, tirelessly tracking back to support the defense. With Alvina and Rachel effectively clearing second balls and neutralizing threats, ISY controlled the game until the final whistle. It was a proud display of grit and teamwork.
