Dear Secondary School Families,
| How do we know we are making a difference? |
As a school, we are always asking ourselves a simple but important question: Are we truly making a difference in student learning?
Next week, our students will take part in two important processes that help us answer that question thoughtfully and responsibly:
-
Student-to-teacher feedback surveys based on the 7Cs framework, and
-
NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments.
While these experiences look different on the surface, they share a common purpose: helping us understand how effective we are and how we can continue to grow.

The 7Cs surveys are an opportunity for students to give structured, constructive feedback directly to their teachers about their classroom experience. Through questions aligned to the 7Cs framework, students reflect on the extent to which their teachers create clarity, cultivate curiosity, build connection, provide appropriate challenge, and foster the other elements that characterize powerful learning. Student voice matters deeply. When gathered carefully and interpreted professionally, this feedback helps teachers reflect on their practice, celebrate strengths, and identify areas for refinement - all in service of stronger learning experiences.
The MAP assessments, meanwhile, provide academic growth data on students over time. Rather than focusing on a single snapshot, MAP helps us understand progress and patterns in student learning. This data does not define a child, nor does it stand alone, but it does give us valuable information. It supports teachers in differentiating instruction, identifying where additional support or extension may be needed, and ensuring that each student continues to move forward.
Most importantly, we do not gather this data just to create reports — we gather it to improve. Our faculty collaborates around both student feedback and assessment data, engaging in professional conversations about what is working and what can be strengthened. When we combine student voice, evidence of growth, and collective reflection, we build a culture of continuous improvement.
The ultimate beneficiaries of this work are our students. By thoughtfully examining the impact of our teaching, we ensure that learning remains purposeful, responsive, and at the heart of everything we do.
Kind Regards,
Mr. Mike Simpson
