Everybody Loves the Big Wheel - Family Fun Fair 2026
By Nick Sturmey, Service Learning Coordinator
Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with all the activities going on at ISY - we are not a large school but we put on many events throughout the year, such as Family Sports Day, International Day, Helping Hands Clinics, Movie Nights, the Annual ISY Gala and the Holiday Bazaar, to name just a few.
We are all very busy, so it might not be possible to attend every event, but allow me to suggest that you keep your diary clear for the afternoon of Saturday 21st February (4.00 PM - 7.00 PM). Why? This is the day of the annual ISY Family Fun Fair.
As many of you know, this is one of the biggest events of the year and I think everyone looks forward to this annual extravaganza. I’ve been at ISY for a long time but I still get excited about the Family Fun Fair!

There will be lots of fun activities run by our students, food and drink from outside vendors and of course the event ends with the Talent Show. I think many people’s favourite is the big wheel (also known as a Ferris wheel, named after its inventor, George Ferris). On the day, you will probably hear the Ferris wheel before you actually see it, thanks to the shrieks and squeals of excited children. |
| I know how hard our students and staff work to make the Family Fun Fair an amazing experience for everyone. The High School Student Council is coordinating the planning, helping service learning groups prepare activities and information materials about their projects. In so doing, the students develop important skills such as planning, teamwork, keeping to a schedule, decision-making and communication. It’s wonderful to see our students working together towards a common goal. | ![]() |

So the Family Fun Fair is a really enjoyable way for families to spend time together, and organizing the event gives our students opportunities to develop real-world skills, but there is one more important element. Yes, the Family Fun Fair is a major fundraising event. The money raised will support our three partner organizations in the Chinthe Fund (Care to the Least Center, Kalihtaw School, and the Yangon Animal Shelter). In addition, some of ISY’s service learning groups will be raising money to support their projects. |
If you have questions about the Chinthe Fund or any of the other service learning groups, please speak to the students at the information stations - they will be happy to share their experiences and what they have learned about the real world through their engagement with service learning projects.
I hope to see you at the Family Fun Fair.
