April 3, 2026 - Elementary School Principal Blog
Mr Geoff Heney
Dear Parents,
We have already completed the quarter of 2026! Before you know it, summer will be here. Friday, we will have the joy of celebrating Thingyan at school with food, an assembly and a little bit of water fun!
In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, where images are perfected in seconds and social media offers a constant stream of curated, polished lives, it is easy to forget what it feels like to encounter something real.
As Mr. Simpson, our Secondary Principal recently noted in his blog, there is a profound difference between an algorithm designed to please an audience and the raw, personal meaning shaped by wonderful humans. While technology often pushes us toward a tiresome and boring version of perfection, the human spirit thrives in the "unpolished" moments where hard work, resilience, and practice take center stage. This weekend, we have the perfect opportunity to pull ourselves away from our screens and expose our children to the vibrant, unpredictable art form of live theatre.
Tonight and Saturday at 6:00 PM, I invite you to join us for the ISY Broadway musical production of ‘Once Upon a Mattress.’ This performance is the culmination of months of dedication from our secondary students, joined by two of our own talented elementary performers. Unlike a digital recording, a live play is a breathing, evolving entity where anything can happen and often does! It is refreshing to witness a production where the beauty lies in the effort and the "back story" of the students who built it. These young actors and crew members have traded the ease of technology for the grit of rehearsals to create something fantastically fun and authentically human.
We would love to see our whole community there to support these students and enjoy a lively evening together. Hnin Si will be selling roses as a lovely way to show your support for our performers, and Popcorn will be available during interval for purchase to complete the experience. No outside food is permitted. We do ask that you please supervise your children during the show so that our actors can stay fully engaged and focused on their performance. Let’s choose the real, the energetic, and the human over the engineered this weekend. I look forward to seeing you there at 6:00 PM for a show that promises to be anything but boring.
Happy Easter to those of you who celebrate!
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Mr. Geoff Heney
