Celebrating a Year of Impact
By Claire (Grade 11) and Wood (Grade 11)
To recognize another successful school year, students and teachers recently came together for the annual Service Learning Celebration. This event is dedicated to recognizing the hard work and achievements of students involved in service learning throughout the year.
During the celebration, students and teachers gathered to reflect on the impact that different service learning groups have made. Each group shared a video that showcased their projects and the progress they have made over the past few months. From working with partner organizations to projects on the ISY campus, each group demonstrated how their contributions made a difference.
The videos also included some reflections about what the students have learned during their projects. Watching the videos helped everyone see the many ways students support the community and how much effort was put into each project.
During the celebration, awards were also given to groups and individual students who showed strong commitment, impact on the community, teamwork, leadership, and creativity in their service learning projects. These awards recognize the hard work that often happens behind the scenes.
We also thanked ISY’s administration, clinic, custodians, drivers, maintenance, security, and the technology department for the essential support they give to students and faculty supervisors - we couldn’t run our projects without them.
The Service Learning Celebration reminded everyone that service learning is fun and that it gives students the chance to learn outside the classroom and use their skills to help others. The celebration showed not only what students have accomplished this year, but also how small actions can create a big impact when the community works together. We hope that more students are inspired to join service learning groups next year.
