Mr Geoff Heney
What a wonderful week it has been in the Elementary School! From student-led performances to inspiring guest authors, our hallways have been buzzing with energy and the "ISY Spirit."
š¦ Student Agency in Action: The G5 Lion Dance
Today, students from G1 to G12 were treated to a spectacular Lion Dance, entirely envisioned and organized by a group of our Grade 5 students.
The spark for this performance began in mid-February during the Chinthe Expedition. A group of students began experimenting with drumming and acrobatic moves, eventually asking if they could choreograph a formal dance for the whole school. With "great passion and teamwork" (as G5 student, Pho Di perfectly put it), they spent days practicing their rhythm and lifts.
A massive thank you to Thein Aung (George Tās mom) for her support in sourcing the authentic lion costumes from Bangkok! This performance was a shining example of what happens when we give students the space to collaborate, be resilient, and lead with their own creative ideas.

š Becoming "Investigators" with Marc Tyler Nobleman
We were also honored to host renowned author Marc Tyler Nobleman this week. Marc worked with all our elementary students, sharing his own journey of uncovering "unknown" stories through tireless research and resilience.
His message to our students was clear: Writers are investigators. Whether they are writing, reading, or solving a complex math problem, we want our students to be curious, to dig deeper for information at every step, and to remain resilient when the answer isn't immediately obvious.
Watching our young learners engage with Marc was a reminder of why we do what we do at ISY: fostering a generation of thinkers who aren't afraid to ask "why" and "how."
Looking Ahead
As we head into the weekend, we celebrate these moments of student-led success and intellectual curiosity. Thank you for your continued partnership in making these experiences possible for our children! You will have a chance to engage and celebrate your childās learning on March 27 during Parent Teacher Conferences. More information to follow in the coming weeks.Ā
Warmly,
Mr. Geoff Heney
Elementary School Principal
š Transport Advisory Update
Following our recent communication regarding temporary fuel use measures expected to begin on March 7, families are encouraged to consider practical transportation arrangements such as carpooling or using taxi services, which are currently exempt from the restrictions.
š” If you require a school letter confirming your childās drop-off and pick-up at ISY, please completeĀ the request form. Once submitted, a letter on ISY letterhead will then be prepared and sent to you.
āIf transportation challenges arise that may affect your childās ability to attend school, please contact your childās principal. We will continue to monitor the situation and share updates if needed.Ā
